Convert DOCX to DOCDOCX format is used with newer versions of Microsoft Word. It is worth noting that if your only aim is to open a docx file with an old version of Microsoft Word (doc)- Then all you really need is the Compatibility Pack for Office to effectively deal with docx and doc types. We will demonstrate the 2 easiest ways to convert DOCX to DOC using Microsoft Word 2007 and OpenOffice Writer Microsoft Office 2007 1. Open Microsoft Word, click on the "File" menu (On some versions: big round button on the top-left corner) and hit "Open". Pick the docx or doc file you wish to convert and open it.
2. Go to the "File" menu again (reminder: may appear as a big round button) and under "Save As" choose "Word 97-2003 Document". Give your file a name and select where you want to save it (e.g. Desktop), when done hit "Save". That's the doc type.
OpenOffice 1. Open the file you wish to convert in OpenOffice Writer.
2. Click on the "File" menu and choose "Save As"
3. Under "Save as type" select "Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP" which is the doc type, give your file a name and select where you want to save it (e.g. Desktop). When done, hit "Save".
